Lifehacker blog storm (and our hiccups)

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Thanks Gina and Lifehacker for putting the PriceAmbush on the map!
We’re greatly appreciated for all the recent visitors and especially the ones encountering the server hiccups (ok, it’s not really the server but to do with a new version we haven’t fully tested in high loads before the Lifehacker storm began). The service should be operating in normal mode as of now. Looking forward to all ya ambushers!

Get Price Drop Email Alerts with PriceAmbush

Shopping service PriceAmbush tracks product prices and emails you about significant drops. Search for a product on PriceAmbush—like a Wii, or an iPod—and click the “Add Alert” button to enter your email address and target price. (The significance of your “target price” isn’t clear, and of course, a disposable email address is a good idea here, as where to remove alerts isn’t obvious either.) Seems like a good service for tracking that purchase that’s just a few bucks too ’spensive at the moment.

PriceAmbush.com - Get Email Alerts When Prices Drop - KillerStartups.com

If you love how the large travel search engines like Travelocity will send you a reminder when a fare drops below a certain value, you might also enjoy PriceAmbush.com. Instead of travel prices, however, PriceAmbush deals with products. So, for instance, if you’re in the market for a new ipod, you can enter “ipod” into the site’s search bar and the site will generate a list of results and their corresponding prices. Addtionally, you can search by tag if you’re having trouble deciding what you want. If you see something you like, click “Add Alert”. This prompts a display of two new fields where you enter in your email address and your target price. The site will then search across various sources using various method (Yahoo’s API, for one), and will send an email alert when the price of the product drops significantly. Registration and all of the site’s services are free.
